The encyclopedia of ecotourism

The beginning of the new century is a good time to take stock of the activities and topics that have been studied under the guise of ‘ecotourism’ for just over a decade. This Encyclopedia of Ecotourism is the first attempt to review the sector in a comprehensive way within a single volume. Its 41 chapters, whose authors include many
leaders in the field, represent a diversity of perspectives and styles. This diversity, within reason, has been encouraged, since there is no one correct way to analyse the ecotourism sector or gain insight into its evolution. Topically, the chapters have been divided into eight sections, each representing a common theme. The first section establishes the context for the volume by considering fundamental issues of definition, categories, market development, growth and relationship to other forms of tourism.
