International research on natural resource management advances in impact assessment

Increased concern about the environmental and natural resource implications of agriculture has given rise to an emphasis on research that calls attention to these issues in developing countries. National and international agricultural research systems, including the research Centres under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), have intensified research on natural resource management (NRM) both in terms of budget allocation and priority setting. Thus the balance with the still dominant productivity enhancement research through breeding
yield-increasing varieties has been changing gradually.
